All Kinds of Families
Produced and Directed by
Liz Garbus and Rory Kennedy
Narrated by Jamie Lee Curtis
Premiered on Lifetime Television in January, 2001
Challenging the traditional definition of "family", this film ultimately seeks to illustrate that the standard "nuclear" unit is but one option of many. Among others, the film will profile: A single father raising several adopted children; a single mother who has been (and will be again) artificially inseminated; same-sex couples raising children both adopted and their own; and intergenerational families, where grandparents are the primary caregivers. Through such a diverse patchwork of experiences, it will become clear that the most important common denominators among happy, healthy families are love, commitment and strength.
