Nominated for a 2004 Emmy for Writing for Nonfiction programming, Pandemic: Facing AIDS is a multi-faceted project that includes a feature-length documentary, a five part series, a 42-minute educational film, twenty minute policy maker’s version, five Public Service Announcements, a website, a promotional CD, a traveling photo exhibition, a photography book, and numerous supporting educational materials. The scope of the global AIDS epidemic is staggering, and Pandemic provides a unique perspective, melding intimate personal stories with a global perspective, while providing moving stories and lessons that have become important tools for AIDS education.
Over the last twenty years, AIDS has killed nearly 22 million people. In 2001 alone, 5 million people were newly infected with HIV. Behind these statistics lie the stories of millions of people, five of whom Pandemic follows, in their different communities around the world, using their experiences to connect audiences with the heartache and triumph of living under the extreme conditions that the disease enforces.
Pandemic: Facing AIDS premiered at the Barcelona World AIDS conference in July of 2002. Shown at the United Nations on World AIDS Day in November 2002. Premiered as a five-part series on HBO in June 2003.
Nominated for the 2004 Emmy Award for Writing for Nonfiction Programming, and for Outstanding Music composition for a series.
